Progress to next year/level of study
Over the duration of the course I have chosen to specialise in fashion and textiles because it is an area I have a passion for and has always fascinated me. I studied it previously in secondary school and thoroughly enjoyed it and therefore I wanted to take it to the next level. My final major project title for year 1 is “Weathering” in which I looked into surface design on weathered objects. I photographed these and translated them into textile prints and then displayed them on mannequins. I have chosen to experiment with a range or different fabric textures and colours to replicate the patterns and prints as realistically as I could. The starting point for this was pictures I’ve previously taken of nature while I’ve been out on walks during the lockdown which inspired all my prints and samples. A process which I repeatedly used throughout my project was using the sewing machine and heat press. In the following year 2 of this course, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to explore different areas of fashion in more detail, and to have the ability to use and pickup more techniques and skills.
