I am interested in the visualisation of written concepts – how I can communicate who a character is and give hints of their personality, without using words. For this project I chose a book which hasn’t yet been visualised, and began concept art for a potential film or animation. The starting point for this project was The Night Circus by Emily Morgenstern, a story about various magical characters coming together to create a mystical circus only open from dusk until dawn. The medium I used was pen and pencil on paper, as well as the use of an iPad and the programme Procreate to create sketches and paintings digitally.

The course has allowed me to experiment with different art forms I have never used before, as well as providing a space for me to build on and improve my skill, giving me a clearer idea of my plans for the future.
